Young people in agriculture: Slavi Aleksiev

In previous interviews in the Young in Agriculture series, we told you the stories of Gerganaand Bojidarwho have decided to take the path of development in agriculture. This week we will meet you with Slavi Aleksiev.

Hello, Slavi. How would you introduce yourself in a few words?

Hello. My name is Slavi Aleksiev and I work in the company Napredak 2020 Ltd with. Zgalevo. The company has been engaged in grain production since 2016. We started with 3,000 acres, but we were able to develop the farm and now we cultivate about 5,000 acres.

I have a Professional Diploma in Digital Media from SMC California and a Bachelor in International Economic Relations from Svishtov.

You have completed your education in another field. How did you start farming?

Like, perhaps, most good things, and it happened quite by accident. All in all, an unpaid debt turned into buildings, machinery, and leased agricultural land.

I love my job, and my favorite part of it is going around my fields and seeing the results of the technologies I apply.

Who directed you to farming?

Unfortunately, no one handed me the “craft”, I had to experiment for two years before I could state that I was doing “successful” farming. Until 2016, my closest contact with agriculture was trading in artificial fertilizers.

What difficulties do you encounter in your work on the farm?

My biggest problem is accessing up-to-date information about owners and users of properties in the plots and entering them in my profile. I would like for the plots in which I cultivate land, to have an up-to-date KBC layer with owners and users for each year.

How many years have you worked with Nick?

I would advise them to be patient. Let them not underestimate, both the work in the field and in the administration of the farm. Because they will encounter difficulties in both directions - both in the cultivation of produce, and in the state administration and working with people.
