What benefits can liming acidic soils bring us? Part II

How do we know if we have acidic soil?Many farmers have problems due to low soil pH. Most often, they notice that plants do not develop normally, have symptoms of various deficits, are stunted, can subsequently die or receive low yields from them.In times of digitalization of agriculture, it is not necessary to go around every square meter of the farm or wait for poor yields to take a step in the direction of obtaining the necessary information.One of the fastest ways to determine whether crops are developing evenly and satisfactorily is by using Vegetation Index Maps (NDVI). Together with laboratory analyses, they provide fast and reliable information, whether and where there are problems with adverse soil reaction.An example of successful implementation of the intelligent solutions offered by NIK is the farm of Donev EOOD. In the vegetation index photos available on the GeoScan crop monitoring platform, an area of poor wheat development was observed. When comparing the NDVI-maps with those for soil response, a clear link is seen between plant development and soil response in this area.

What to do if we have acidic soils?When establishing low pH values, the next step is to make an additional analysis for lime consumption. This analysis is one of those routinely performed in the laboratory of NIK Agro Service. Through it, the lime norms necessary for correcting the soil reaction to the desired level are determined. The norms are taken into account with the type of soil and the liming materials to be used.In the presence of the appropriate technique, liming can also be carried out with a variable rate.
