Precision spring spraying - what we need to know

With the onset of spring, the weather changes dynamically every hour and shortens the windows in which one can work in the field, while at the same time the agrotechnical measures that each farmer needs to carry out increase.

In situations like this, the efficiency and productivity of any operation is critical, and this should not be at the expense of precision. This applies in full force to spraying, so today we will share with you what our customers have shared with us and how they are coping with the challenges in the field!

  • “How to spray quickly?”
  • “How to spray effectively?”
  • “How to spray optimally?”

“How to spray quickly?”

Good practices in agriculture show that the speed of spraying always pays off. Here, farmers share that the key to speed is the ratio between the acres grown and the available equipment. “My farm is the optimal ratio of land and equipment. I try to have such a machine park that when it is necessary to spray in 3, maximum 4 days I can spray the areas with the corresponding crop, because in a longer period there is already a risk for the crops” - he shares Rumyana Angelovafrom Gr. “How to spray effectively?”

The effectiveness of spraying can be ensured in several ways, says service specialist Tsvetan Iliyanov. The first way is through equipment with GPS navigation and control, which will allow the mechanizer to pay more attention to the spraying itself, and not to the control of the tractor. With them, in addition to increased attention to spraying, comes the possibility of increasing the working speed.

The second way is by using the intelligent systems of the sprayer itself, part of which are Boom Guide Control (in the case of Kverneland sprayers), sectional control and the possibility of shrinking the sprayer and working at half working width, in areas of the field where this is necessary. The pole height control system, known as Boom Guide Control or Norac, ensures the constant following of the dynamics of the terrain and ensures a constant spray height and uniform coverage, which are important for the quality application of the preparation, whether it is a herbicide, fungicide or insecticide.

“How to spray optimally?”

One question that appears on the agenda now is how to spray only where it is needed, not everywhere. Even if it sounds complicated, the solution is right in front of us - and not just one, but two! The first solution for spraying in certain areas is with the help of Drone, with which hard-to-reach areas in the field itself can be reached and treated. Drone spraying gives you the ability to spray regardless of weather conditions and no matter the size of the area you want to treat, shares Kamen Indzhov, product manager.

The second solution is through artificial intelligence and a selective spraying system such as CarbonBee, which recognizes weeds in the field, both in pre-sowing spraying with total herbicide and when spraying in an already developed crop. This type of system can be installed on multiple models and brands of sprayers, and in order to achieve the effect of saving up to 85%, it is recommended that the sprayer has sectional control of each nozzle, shares Daniel Nikolov, product manager.
