7 Steps to Proper Diaphragm Pump Maintenance

IN The first articlefrom our series we showed the main advantages of diaphragm pumps. In the second part, we will describe the 7 steps for their proper maintenance.
Periodic maintenance will not only provide you with quiet operation in the field, but also becomes a profitable investment, as it extends the life of both the diaphragm pump and the sprayer.
Tightening the diaphragm pump
For proper tightening it is necessary:
- check that the pump is securely attached to the sprayer chassis
- to check whether the fittings are connected to the pipes of the water circuit without liquid leakage or air suction

Flushing
After each spraying, flush the system including the pump, as most damage to rubber/silicone parts occurs after prolonged contact of chemical preparations with them. The NIK team recommends the preparation “All Clear” for cleaning the spray system. With it, you ensure the washing of all residues of detergents, which is a guarantee of long and trouble-free operation of the pump and sprayer.

Oil level
The oil has a dual purpose:
- lubrication of mechanical parts
- performs the role of a hydraulic support for diaphragms
Therefore, always maintain the level indicated in the compensator and, if necessary, supplement to reach the appropriate level.

Pulsation Damper
The air tranquilizer is designed to reduce pulsations. Every 50 hours of operation, the air charge should be checked, and if necessary, the pressure should be reset using a pump.
To set the pressure correctly, refer to the model manual of your pump.

Routine maintenance
Every 300 hours of operation, you need to change the diaphragms and check the condition of the valves, in particular, springs, plates and rings. Also check if it is necessary to change the oil.
These checks must also be carried out at the end of the season or after 300 hours of operation (whichever comes first).

Winter storage
For proper and trouble-free wintering of the diaphragm pump, use the All winter preparation, specially developed for this purpose. The preparation protects the rubber/silicone parts of the pump, while ensuring reliable wintering at low temperatures.

Power take-off
Always check that the cardan shaft is properly sized depending on the type of machine and pump. You should also make sure that the power take-off shaft is always well lubricated.

These were the steps for proper maintenance of the diaphragm pumps and the advice of a NIK service and spare parts team!
